Sweet Summer Tomato

This still life is realism with a twist. I place still life objects on a mirror, and put the mirror in a landscape. Playful and puzzling, it is realism, influenced by modernism.

This painting, third in the series, revealed the potential of silver bowls on a mirror, their surfaces a mirror in itself. The tomatoes are reflected and abstracted inside the bowl. The outside of the bowl distorts the garden around it with the drama of realism, surrealism and abstraction.
