Classic Confusion
This still life is blends technically accurate realism with a twist. I place still life objects on a mirror, then put the mirror outdoors. Playful and puzzling, it reflects my training in both classical and conceptual art, realism, influenced by modernism.
Classicism and Confusion is inspired by the Atelier tradition of training. Atelier, French for "workshop” was standard for artists from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Ateliers, focused on representational skills for the still life, landscape and portrait. And Ateliers all but disappeared with the birth of conceptualism.
I am a member of the International Guild of Realism. Though this association, I discovered the Art Renewal Center, an international Salon leading the revival of traditional Ateliers with approved living Masters such Anthony Ryder, Max Ginsburg and Juliette Aristides, all of whom I have had the occasion to study with.
